Your favourite music shop that you’ve never heard of
An ever-changing collection of instruments, ideas, and slightly questionable decisions
About Us
Mo’s Music Market is your favourite music shop that you’ve never heard of; an ever-changing cornucopia of guitars, keyboards, recording gear, and anything else vaguely musical that Mo can get his hands on.
This is not a shop of endless identical stock, corporate display stands, and websites that look like they were assembled by committee.
Like you, we are creative people, and we want to inject some of that creativity back into the business we inhabit. We want visiting our website or shop to be an experience: somewhere you never quite know what you’re going to find next, whether that be a pleasantly-battered ‘60s acoustic guitar or a faintly threatening mannequin with a disco ball for a head.
We’re trying to build something genuinely different: the world’s weirdest guitar shop, a loose museum of music technology, and a place you come not just to buy things, but to feel things.
We’re not quite there yet, but that’s where we’re going.
Meet Mo
At the centre of it all is Mo: the man, the myth, the slightly eccentric guide to the world of music gear.
He’s been everywhere, seen everything, and developed a habit of acquiring interesting instruments along the way.
We’ve built the shop in his spirit: curious, eclectic, and not especially interested in doing things the “proper” way.
What We Do
We mainly sell pre-owned music gear, for three reasons:
-
It’s more financially sustainable
We’re not interested in being strong-armed into buying this year’s “new” range that looks suspiciously like last year’s, while the old stock gathers dust under mandated corporate displays. Pre-owned lets us buy intelligently, price fairly, and focus on what’s actually worth owning.
-
It’s more environmentally sustainable
Does the world really need another brand-new guitar / synth / piano? Or could we just shuffle the ones we’ve already got about a bit so we all end up with the ones we want or need? We like to think our job is to make the shuffling bit fun (Mo did have a stint as a card sharp in a travelling circus, after all).
-
It’s more interesting
Pre-owned means constant variety, unexpected finds, and the occasional piece you didn’t even know you were looking for.
Of course, it also comes with its challenges. Fortunately, we’ve been doing this a long time. Everything we sell is properly checked, set up, and backed with sensible warranties and returns.
We know what we’re doing
Mo’s Music Market comes from some of the people behind Turnkey, Sound Control, Red Dog Music, and Kenny’s Music.
We’ve been through the mill and seen it all. We know how to make instruments play properly, how to describe them honestly, and how to make sure they arrive exactly as they should.
Visit Us (Online or Otherwise)
We do a lot of our business online - because that’s how people mainly buy now - but we are also very much a real shop. We’re based in Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife, which we appreciate isn’t on everyone’s daily commute. But if you make the trip, you’ll be very welcome to come in and have a play, have a browse, and see what’s come in this week. Our opening hours can be a little… flexible. That’s partly because we’re a small team, and partly because we spend a lot of time sourcing gear, answering enquiries, and making sure everything we ship arrives exactly as it should.
Why Now?
It’s a strange time to be launching a musical instrument shop.
Many long-standing, much-loved names (including PMT, GAK, and JG Windows) have disappeared or are struggling. It’s harder than ever to try things in person, and easier than ever to buy from a vast, anonymous online warehouse.
But that also creates an opportunity.
We think there’s space for something smaller, more human, and more interesting. A place with personality. A place that actually cares what it sells. A place that feels like it belongs to the people who use it.
If we can do that - and have some fun along the way - we’ll call it a success.
